A Moment in Time

About painting wildlife ... one of the best things is to have a
chance of suspending time, to hold it in the hollow of your
hand like a smooth polished stone ... to study it, cherish it,
keep it. Perhaps your have held something few have ever
seen ... rarely, briefly, in two or three beats of the heart. When
it is gone, you carry a memory with you, gently, under a wing.

This mule deer pair would never stand so long for you or me.
We would be left standing alone, stunned by their wild beauty.
And so, stroke by stroke, I call them back. I summon them humbly,
patiently, and they come to canvas, trembling with life.
